Japan air boycott draws ire of Seoul

July 15, 2011, updated at 06: 12 GMT Map Korea of the South has protested to Japan after Tokyo ordered its diplomats to boycott Korean Air in a territorial dispute between the two countries.

Ministry of foreign relations of Korea of the South called the boycott "deeply regrettable".

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Thursday told diplomats not fly Korean Air for a month after he made a flight over disputed islands.

The Islands, called Liancourt in Korean and han in Japanese, are claimed by both but controlled by the southern Korea.

On Friday the Ministry of foreign relations of Korea of the South called a Japanese diplomat on the boycott.

"In terms of bilateral relations, the Japanese decision is very disappointing," the Ministry said.

It added: "If there are no air traffic control problems, a Korean airline is free to do anything within our airspace".
